Background: The Swedish Road Administration has set up a number of virtual research centres to co-ordinate the research demanded and financed by the Swedish Road Administration. The Swedish Road Administration will subsidise the centre to the order of at least SEK 10 million per annum. The aim is that the centre will also be attractive to other financiers of research in Sweden and the rest of Europe. The Teknikdalen Foundation in Borlänge has been appointed to act as co-ordinator for TTS.

Organisation:

Participants in TTS comprise a number of research and development groups that contribute to its activities by working together to produce project concepts based on the FUD needs of the Swedish Road Administration or other financiers. The concepts are tested by the Swedish Road Administration or another financier, and they then decide which projects are to be awarded money from the fixed subsidy. The co-ordinator draws up agreements with each partner within the centre.

The partners in TTS are the GIS Institute, the University of Gävle, Dalarna University, the Teknikdalen Foundation, TFK Borlänge, WSP Analysis & Strategy, Göteborg and Borlänge, VTI Borlänge, the Interactive Institute, the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH)/CTR Centre for Traffic Simulation, Movea Trafikkonsult AB, SWECO VBB,  the University of Linköping/Norrköping Campus, VTI Linköping, Chalmers, the Department of Logistics and Transport, Lindholmen Science Park, the Viktoria Institute, Lund Institute of Technology, the Department of Technology and Society, Blekinge Institute of Technology.

A steering group has been appointed, comprising representatives of the partners. The steering group meets 2-4 times a year and decides which project applications are to be forwarded to the Swedish Road Administration. The steering group also draws up an annual business plan for the centre.

There is also a Business Council, with representatives of financiers, traffic authorities, the vehicle industry, transport providers and transport users. The Business Council is an advisory body.
